salty date bark
Have you ever had that feeling that you don’t know what to do or how to exist? Maybe your mind is swirling, or it’s completely blank, but one thing is true to both: you're tired of doing nothing and need something to make you feel. OR perhaps you just like sweet treats!
That one thing I always need to get me back online: BAKING
Today, my mind was blank, and I knew I didn’t want to do nothing, but I also didn’t want to go out and DO anything. Which, of course, led me to my kitchen and this creation.
This Salty Date Bark is a no-bake dessert, homemade in minutes and the perfect healthy dessert when you’re craving a little sweet, salty, chocolatey, and crunchy. It’s only a five-ingredient recipe, I mean c’mon, how does it get better than that!
Salty Date Bark Recipe
Ingredients you’ll need:
10 Pretzels
¼ cup Date Paste
¼ cup Chocolate Chips
2 tsp Coconut Oil
Sprinkle of Sea Salt
How to make salty date bark:
Line a baking sheet or plate with parchment paper
Lay all 10 pretzels flat on their backs (salty side down)
Place chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave for 1 minute, stirring every 30 seconds, or until melted
While the chocolate is melting, spread date paste evenly on all crackers
Drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the crackers and use a spatula to spread it out. Top with salt
Allow to sit until hardened, about 20 minutes
Enjoy! …. (try not to devour all in one sitting… but who am I kidding? dates=fibre, chocolate=happiness - go ham!)
Store in an airtight container on the counter for up to 4 days …. if they last that long!
Tips for the best chocolate date bark
I love using these chocolate chips because they’re allergy-friendly (nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan) and made with real ingredients.
I love using these flat pretzels; there is more surface area for the date paste and chocolate to cover!
Be generous with your chocolate layer …
Recipe Variations
You can swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for any chocolate variation you please! If you have a favourite 100% dark chocolate bar, melt that! Dark chocolate would be so delicious with the sea salt
You can use “regular” pretzels instead of the flat ones. If you do this, I suggest combining all the ingredients in a bowl and then laying it flat to dry for a trail-mix bark vibe!
Ingredient highlights
Date paste provides 3g of fibre and 1g of protein per ¼ cup, so not only are these delicious, but they also have blood-sugar balancing properties and keep you feeling full and satisfied!
Celtic Sea Salt is full of essential minerals necessary for hydration and overall cellular support in the body
Coconut Oil is one of my favourite oils to bake with. You can barely taste it in the recipes, but it adds great health benefits for skin, hair and nails!
Chocolate is good for the soul and naturally a source of magnesium - when paired with salt, this is a recipe that supplies essential electrolytes that regulate hydration and mood
